Does anyone know about total lack of sexdrive?

Five years ago my partner suddenly went from having a high sex drive to nothing. Absolutely no interest. Overnight his personality changed to moody, irritable and badtempered. Doesn't even want me to sleep in the same room. Has even stopped masturbating. No, he isn't seeing someone else. He is on low dose anti-depressants, but has been on them for sometime. His testosterone level is at the bottom of the normal range, but the urologist he saw said he won't prescribe testosterone because it kills people.

As I'm sure you know, this is a sign of depression; it can also be a side-effect of many anti-depressants. I would encourage him to consult with his doctor and try another medication; there is no scientific formula about arriving at the right med, it's simply trial and error and sometimes you have to try several before you find the right one. Maybe he needs a higher dose. Five years is a long time for the both of you to be going through this--you have a lot of patience! Accompany him to the doctor and approach this as a team if you can as the issue is affecting both of you.

Yeah he definatly has low testosterone. I actually have clinical depression and when I got low T because of a medical issue it imediatly triggered a depressive episode. He needs to be treated for low T. He needs to go see an endocrinologist, not a urologist. Urologists don't study that much into hormone treatments, they just study the male repsorudctive system. The only time Testosterone therapy kills a person is when the doctor gives them poor treatment. Getting simple T boosters isn't going to kill you. What ever doctor he is seeing is HORRIBLY uneducated about what he's talking about.

He needs to be treated for the low T otherwise he'll spend the rest of his life never being himself again... who wants to live like that? I sure as hell didn't. He will feel MUCH better after he starts getting booster shots or gets on something called Andro Gel. So he should just call up his hospital and make an appointment with an endocrinologist and if he does have to see someone outside the hospital make sure he brings his tests results with him.

EDIT: People keep suggesting that it's the anti-depressants that are causing the problem. Anti-depressants to have sexual side effects, however the side effects are NOT this severe nor do the side effects randomly show up after he's been on the medication for quite some time. Low Testosterone can cause all his issues, even the depression. So it could be a combo of both but it is certainly not the anti-depressant alone.

It's most likely the combination of the anti-depressant and his low testosterone level. Find a new urologist, that is not true about hormone therapy. I work in a pharmacy and many men are safely on testosterone for low levels. It's safe. Good luck.
