Veterinarians, what what was/is it like for you?

Hi. I'm a high school senior and I'm going to be off to college soon. My top dream career is being a veterinarian. But I'm not sure what I kind I want to be yet. I'm participating in a Veterinary Mentoring Program and they've told about so many different types of vets.

So I'm wondering for you vets out there (I hope I get some answers too)

1) What kind of vet are you?

2) What was schooling/training like before you came a vet?

3) How is practicing in your field?

    1. Vet student hoping to work in marine mammal or zoo field

    2. I go to the University of Missouri. It was difficult to get accepted - competitive so get involved with leadership in undergrad and build your resume. Volunteer or work at a vet clinic as well. School is hard and I study all the time - literally. It is stressful but definitely well worth it. At our school we get 2 years of book learning and 2 years of clinics (most schools are 3 and 1) so we get more clinical experience than most.

    3. can't answer this yet except to say that I hope to do a 1 year internship when I graduate and then a 3 year residency before I hopefully get a job in my field of choice!

    Good luck!
