The American School has a good reputation among foreigners AND Taiwanese. I am personally acquainted with the operators of the one in Hsinchu.

Definitely has to be either Taipei American School
Taipei American School is a private school with top curriculum, however the tuition is high around
$15,600 a semester (it's rising every year)
Trust me, it's the best cause all the kids who go to other american schools in Taiwan (GCA, Bethany, Taipei Adventist) are usually on the waiting list to go to TAS
