Why was a flag thrown on the opening play of Vikings/Jets?

A flag was thrown for Favre being ineligible downfield. Isn't the quarterback considered an eligible received after handing the ball of or pitching the ball? Favre handed the ball to Percy Harvin before going downfield to catch a pass on the play.

He was ineligible because he was directly behind the center. To be an eligible receiver you have to be on the end of the line or one yard behind it. If Favre was in the shotgun formation, he would have been eligible and it would have been a great play. Running it the way they did makes the offensive coordinator look foolish. Any high school coach knows that rule. Maybe it was Favre who messed up by going under center. He might have been texting in the huddle and got distracted.

Favre lined up under center, that made him ineligble.

He was ineligible because he was blocking 3 yards beyond the line of scrimmage.
