What do you think about otakus?

I think of someone who is typically over obsessed with manga and anime, sort of nerdy in some respect and socially inept.

Isn't Otaku a negative word in Japanese meaning somebody who doesn't have a life and stays home reading comics, watching cartoons and playing video games?

that other guy is right, in Japanese it IS a negative word.

i even asked a few of my Japanese friends myself...they said its bad.

but even before i knew that it was negative, i used to be one, but i stopped because they are just about negative everywhere you go. none of them have lives, just watch anime all day, draw manga, are fat, nerds, no fashion sense, barely know ANY Japanese, talk like idiots and have bad pronunciation of Japanese, etc. but thats not ALL of them.

personally, i stopped being an otaku because i wanted to do something BETTER with my life.

but thats just me. some people never grow out of it...like my best friend, i always wonder when she is actually going to DO something with her life...seriously...

I think they're nerdy, and I like nerds. The ones that go over the top and act like they're half Japanese are a bit annoying, but the friendly ones who just enjoy a bit of anime and manga and Japanese RPG's every once in a while are fine by me.

There are some otakus at my school. They're nice people... just kinda um eccentric.
