    ... a²b² - 144

    = (ab)² - (12)²

    = (ab - 12) (ab + 12)

    take the square root of the equation

    a²b² - 144 = 0

    a²b² = ±144

    √(a²b²) = ±√144

    ab = ±12

    (ab + 12)(ab - 12) = 0

    Remember what a^2 - b^2 is?

    (a+b)(a-b)

    That same concept applies here

    a^2b^2 - 144 = (ab+12)(ab-12)
