Why oh why do people want to choose weird names?
I mean, I understand "uncommon", but just made up or weird? I don't get it. Don't people understand that their kid has to live with this name, and the studies do show that a name can influence success rates in life? I mean, give the poor kid a break.

Im not even cool with "uncommon" names. I have battled with my wife over this. No matter what you tell a person, or what statistics you give them, they still refuse to comprehend the fact that the kid is the one who has to live with the name. They are not some toy, or extension of the mothers "pent up creativity".

there are many names that are from other cultures or languages... just because they sound different to you doesn't make them weird or made up. Some people are just too close minded and boring to appreciate creativity, other cultures or reasons for wanting their child to be beautiful and with a beautiful name!! What I don't understand is boring people like you!!

I ask myself this same question every time I log onto Y!A. I see people wanting to name their children things like Swarley and Ariolah (areola is a damn part of the nipple!). It's so ridiculous. I understand not wanting to name your daughter Sarah or your son John because those are very common names, but when you want to name your child something that sounds like having your head dunked in a toilet and flushed or a part of the nipple, it's time to have some rational-thinking people help name it.
What are employers going to think when Swarley goes in for an interview?

I agree! I think so many people today are very full of themselves and want to sound interesting to other people so they give their children ridiculous names...much like many celebrities are doing these days. the problem is that little Apple born to Joe and Mary Smith is not going to have the same lifestyle as Apple Paltrow.
It really is all about them. They don't give a rats *** that their child is to going to grow up being embarrassed and teased because of their name.

It really depends on names you are considering "weird"
I think some of the worst names are Celebrity babies.
However, there are some crazy names on baby name websites and in baby books.
I think everyone just has really different styles and opinions. What seems weird now will probably be common one day because the names will become popular.

What's weird in your opinion isn't weird to everyone. Some of the most "weird" names out there are the most beautiful. Lay off and worry about your own issues.

Yeah, it's not like Barack Obama or Condoleezza Rice got anywhere with their "weird" names ... oh wait.
