what kind of flower is this?

I'm not sure if I'm able to attach pictures here or not. I will try. I live in central Alabama about 29 miles south of Birmingham. This flower recently came up and budded, and is now really pretty.

Update:

ok the flower is a purplish color and has several bells around the bloom area, about 8 or 9 total flower bells in a flat circle. The stem is about 1.5 to 2 feet tall and relitivly thick (about 1/8th to 1/4"). there are several same colored whisps that are thin at the bottom of the bulb kinda like a spider or pine needle, but soft. The bulb near where each bell came out is white in coloring. I'm really wondering what this is. My fiancee thinks it may be a tiger Lilly, but the pictures i've seen disagree. We live in central Alabama and teh flowers just came up and bloomed about a month ago, almost overnight.

Update 2:

thanks science gravy! Turns out the flower we have is a red spider plant with it's 'legs' fully open in the position that gives the flower it's name!
