Yes you can leave a dog alone for an hour or two, in some cases and not as a regular daily occurence you can leave them for up to 4 hours. I would strongly advise against having a dog if you think you will regularly be leaving him for long periods. Get a cat.

I have a chihuahua and if we leave her at home to go out of today for around 5 hours then she won't eat the whole time. It really depends on the dog. Make sure they are potty trained though. Leave mats/pads. If its an outdoor dog, make sure there aren't any openings in your fence or anything. If it's an indoor dog make sure that it is in a safe location away from any wires or things like that. I'm guessing that it will be a puppy, so just think of a safe/secure place to put it. Also, make sure it has food and water. The longest i would leave it would be and hour if you just get it. or leave it with someone you trust. after it gets adjusted to it's surroundings (3 months or so) maybe you could leave it for 2-3 hours. Hope this helps! (:

An hour or two is definately ok. As a puppy, I would keep it to a 2 hour maxamum just because they have small bladders and need to go out often; I would crate them when you are not there. This would reduce the amouts of accidents. As they grow up, you can leave them alone for longer periods of times. after the age of two, they are pretty much fine up to about 4 hours. If you are going to be any longer than this, it is easy to have a close friend come let them out. My dog is 8 years old and the longest ive ever left him alone was about 6 hours...no accidents. It is not wierd that you never had a dog, there are a lot of people that havent. I suggest getting one though. You will love it and I promise it is easy to handle just as long as you train it properly.

Well chances are the dog will do a pee on the floor while your gone, but make sure theres nothing that can harm the dog in the area, you should get baby gates to center a certain area for the dog to stay in while your gone - but like I said he might go to the washroom on the floor ^^ , if you have carpet then be aware it may stain ><

yeah you can leave dogs home alone alot as long as you make sure to feed and walk them regularly and give them lots of attention when you can. if possible, take them in the car with you wherever you are going. 1-2 hours is fine though. my dog is home for 6 hours every day while i'm at school, and he is fine as long as i walk him
