Career blues regarding low salary. Am I off to ta bad start?
I got out of college on February 2009. Now, I am making 37000 / year working about 55 hours a week. I went to school for restaurant management. I know the hospitlity field is not a pot of gold when it comes to salaries but i am getting worried that I will continue to make a low salary if I stay in the field.
I am only 24 but I would like to set a goal to make at least 55,000 by the time I'm 30.
What to do suggest?

$37,000.00 is not a low salary, it is a good salary to start off.
First you have to get your feet wet in this industry that you are in and gain experience so that in the matter of years you will be noticed and can obtain the salary you desire.
It is matter of hard work, negotiation, on the job learning and networking to get where you want to go.
Think positive and work harder.
Good luck.

The economic enterprise will choose to pass strictly with the aid of the tax returns. If he shows he has continually made and suggested $5000 or greater in self-employment income for the final 2-3 years, they'd evaluate the $5000. in the event that they arrive to a determination to no longer evaluate the $5000, this purely skill they are going to look in basic terms on the common income. on account that banks tend to overlend, this genuinely greater suitable for you because of the fact the $5000 can provide $3 hundred a month greater in respiratory room.

What are you on about?
I would be ECSTATIC to earn 37k at 24. Hell, i'm 21 and am waiting to hear back from a job that, if i get it, will pay me about £15k a year. In short your raking it in mate, stop being so greedy.
However, as you haven't mentioned which currency i shall assume you are american and are therefore paid in $. It still aint bad, your getting like the equivalent of like £19k a year which is a decent wage. only £3k less than average wage and you have plenty of time to get promoted and therefore earn more.
In summary, if you are earning £37k a year, Stop being so greedy.
If you are earning $37k a year, It's a pretty decent wage son, but i would try and get promoted.

Currently you are lucky to have a job at all so be thankful for that. I agree with what has been said previously, you have to work your way up the ladder. Higher wages are measurable with experience.

I just graduated, I'm 23, and I make 29,000, but I do work 40 hours a week, so we're about even. I'm pretty happy with it, it's entry level, what can you expect!

Is there no room for increases in your present position? Maybe you need some experience first then you can apply for jobs that pay more. Rome wasn't built in day :)
