Why aren't Humvees street legal? What modifications would be needed to make one street legal?
According to the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service, Humvee's aren't street legal. Now besides the obvious machine gun issue, why isn't it legal for me to drive on to work? How would one need to be modified for me to do so?

They are Street Legal. They CAN NOT be licensed for road use by a private individual.
They do not meet Dept of Transportation safety requirements or EPA clean air standards.
If you were somehow able to modify and fit one to meet all these standards, you could do it.
It would be cheaper to buy a Hummer H-1 for about $100K. Similar to the Military version and already to go on the road.

They are street legal. Even with machine guns. How do you think Humvees get anywhere?

It depends on the state. Some states have airbag and smog requirements. Others require safety tests and specific light requirements.

They are street legal, maybe you need a hardtop rather than the soft one?
