Questions about Subaru RS?

So I am looking to buy a Subaru 2.5RS. I just wanted to know if they are slow when stock. I have a mustang with the 3.8l engine right now and it goes 0-60 in like 9 or 10 seconds. How will the subaru be compared? The Mustang is auto and I want a manual subaru.

The 98-02 RS models were rated at 0-60 in 7.9 seconds. musicalgreasemonkey, said he can hit 60 in 7.5 but I'm just not feeling it with a car that's heavier than the older GC8 body RS with just an intake.

If you want something that's going to respond well to mods get a WRX - an older one (02-04) won't be much more than an RS. It has a lot more potential than an RS.

Well, you didn't say what year V6 mustang, because they used the 3.8 from the late 80s until 2004. The 96-98 V6 cars would lose handily to a manual 2.5RS, even the manual V6s. The 99-04s had more power, but the manual V6 mustang was quicker than a manual 2.5RS Impreza. With the auto mustang, however, I'd say it would be pretty even between the two cars. Also, the 99-01 RS coupe was the quickest of all the RS's, simply because it was under 2800lbs still.

  • i have a 2005 subaru impreza RS. the stock 2.5 does fine, its got plenty of pep, and it gets rlyy good mileage.

i have an injen intake on it, the suspension is lowered a little by stiffer springs, and i have never gotten worse than 25 mpg. on 3 seperate highway trips, with the intake and lowered suspension, i have gotten 36-37 mpg. but usually around town i get 26-27, with aggressive driving.

i have recorded 7.5 seconds 0-60, so that would be faster than the 3.8 mustang you have. i am very happy with the car, and the balance of power and mpg that it has.

mine is a 5 spd manual.

They will be pretty similar acceleration wise. The issue with the RS's is it makes decent torque but the power dies off pretty early in the power band. Passing on the freeway needs some forethought. But over all they are great cars and with AWD, you can have a lot of fun in the rain and snow. Plus I bet it handles quite a bit better than your Mustang does.
