Why do people use championships as basis for greatness... Kobe Overrated?
People usually say Kobe is great because he has 5 rings. Other players particularly Steve Nash is consistenetly UNDERRATED because he has not gotten into the finals.. My question, Has Steve Nash ever been given a CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM? Kobe has Gasol, Bynum, Artest, and Odom players with proven skills and are all star caliber. I mean so what if Kobe won the 2010 Championship, everyone expected him to win not only because he's so good but rather he has the best team. Imagine Lebron in place of Kobe with the Lakers, that'd surely will win also.
Kobe can't even get a sub-playoff team past the Suns with only Steve Nash and Shawn Marion. in 2006. I mean Nash always makes him team exceed expectations. The best team Nash ever had was with Amare and Marion and these guys would not build a championship team. Who'd ever though Nash would go back to the Western finals again last year with a roster that didn't even make the playoffs in 2009? Kobe doesn't exceed expectations, he scored 35ppg in 2006 and can't even get past the so called OVERRATED and DEFENSELESS Nash in 2006? Nash's teammates sucked, only Marion was good. Nash had to make Diaw, Barbosa and Bell so good. Now look at the three of them no longer with Nash and are forgotten in the league.
I even believe Malon is better than Duncan, Nash better than Stockton. Nash is a better shooter, scorer and passer that Stockton. I mean Stockton had the team of his dreams with the best PF in NBa history. So what if these guys didn't have rings? It doesn't change how good they are.

Because they're insecure.
According to the sack riders, there could be someone averaging 40, 10, 10 but never win a ring because of playing with scrubs, but the sack riders would still think Kobe is better because he has rings.

I think your generalizing a bit, Steve Nash is considered underrated because of the attention shown to younger point guards like Rose and Rondo who obviously aren't near as good as he is. Even though I'm a Celtics fan I still have a lot of respect for Kobe, he has taken a team of role players and turned them into champions. For example look how the Lakers did this preseason against the timberwolves without Kobe. Kobe is the one who makes the other guys look good. Now that he is older he is more of a facilitator, but he can still a lot and quickly.
Relating to Stockton and Malone, the only reason they didn't get a ring was a certain team from Chicago, with MJ on it. Without the Bulls dominating for years a lot of teams like Utah, Cleveland, Detroit, etc. would have gotten rings.

as u may know, im a big Steve Nash fan.
but ur argument is false, why?
Every team Nash has been on since joining the Suns in 04, has been a contending team other than two.(in 08-09 with Shaq ruining chemistry).
in 07, for example the Suns were the best team in the L, and if it wasnt for suspensions that should not ahve happened as a result of the Robert Horry hip check, they would have gone on and swept the Cavs, not the Spurs.
and also to say that Nash is better than Kobe is Ludicrous.
Source(s): Once again...a Steve Nash fan, since his Dallas days. Also, no one said Nash isnt great, ppl agree hwe is a future Hall of Famer for sure. Some peopel may think he's overrated for his 2 MVP's...but as far as i se eit, he deserved those two. - Anonymous1 decade ago
Bryant was maybe the best player in the league from '03-'07. Even on the Early 2000's Lakers teams he wasn't the best player on his own team. Nash is soft and Lebron is the future. PS Stockton was more consistant than Nash. And he didn't cry in public.

2005 Suns: Nash, Joe Johnson, Shawn Marion, Amare Stoudemire, never had a championship team right ?

you make a very strong arguement. I love Steve Nash and I agree with every single thing you said.
Steve Nash> Kobe Bryant
Where have you been Prince? It seems as if I'm the only one in this section who talks about Nash and his suns any more.

I agree with u. The reason kobe so great is because we've seen both sides. Him averaging 35but. On a crappy team and his not playin to his but bein a good leader and winning championships. The main reason he is great is because he's the best closer in the game.

you may have a point there.
but there is something a championship ring brings...
and that players don't become a champion for no reason.
there must be a reason why kobe has 5 rings.
and malone and barkley doesn't have one.
Source(s): sorry to bring malone and barkley in kobe's genre. i just want to make a point
