Shimano and Suntour freewheel compatability?

I have a suntour sprint freewheel but I am installing all shimano 600 ultegra. Do I need a shimano index freewheel or can I keep my suntour one?

As long as they have the same number of cogs there should be no problem except that newer shimano freewheels have shift ramps that provide slightly smoother shifting. Make sure that the cogs on your old Suntour freewheel are not worn out, a new chain will slip on a worn freewheel.

most of the older sprints weren't indexed, if your is not the shifter will not work correctly.....Note also that also 9 and 10 speed shifter are not compatible with 6-7-8speeed freewheels as the cog spacing in different....i personally would buy a cheaper cassette hub and for go using a freewheel all together
