Did she even have the right to refuse me as a buyer? (Teen)?
So i'm a 15yr old girl, and I was in the dollar store today, and I myself LOVE candles.
My lighter ran blank the other day and i saw a jet lighter at Dollar Rama, so I placed it on the counter with my other stuff and shes like "Do you have i.d?" and i'm just like "Since when did I need an i.d to buy a lighter?" and she wouldn't let me get it for some reason.
I think its discriminating that she wouldn't sell it to me because i'm a teenager. I don't even smoke, it was like a smack in the face. I just needed it for candles... Any place else they sell me a lighter no problem, so whats up with this?
Can she do this? Whats a valid point to argue..? cause in no way was i gonna use the lighter for drugs..

Retailers can sell whatever to whomever they wish.
Just take your business elsewhere.

I am not sure, where I live we can sell lighters, but the cigarettes are coded to come up as ask for i.d. Maybe this store has the same system and lighters are included. I would call and ask to speak to the manager and explain what happened.

She can very legally refuse service to you.
Buy the lighter elsewhere. It is likely their policy not to sell lighters to teenagers. it is not illegal to refuse service or sale to of an item to a teenager.

A seller cannot force a buyer to buy and a buyer cannot force a seller to sell.
A transaction can take place only when buyer and seller agree to the transaction.

Any store can refuse to sell anything to you. Go to another store.

Their store, their policy. You don't have to shop there. Get over it.
