Christians: Why did the author of Matthew say 3 X 14 generations ?
Why was 14 important to him as we knew there were more than 14 generations in each of the period as evident in Luke's. Did God wrongly inspired him or Luke or both.
Mat 1:17 Thus the total number of generations from Abraham to David is fourteen generations; from David to the Babylonian exile, fourteen generations; from the Babylonian exile to the Messiah, fourteen generations.
Camille: of course, I do have an agenda, what 's bad about it exposing Matthew. After all, the early Jewish Christian did not have the first chapter in their Gospel of Matthew.
By telling us it was 14 generations, the author was simply omitting and adopting names to fit it, do you not worry about his agenda.
The number of generations between between Abraham to Jesus is 42 for Matthew and 57 for Luke, a difference of 15 generations or so. Where did these generations disappeared?The only explanation for the wide gap could due be errors by the authors themselves.

matthew was writing to the jews , so he had to show that jesus was able to be traced through the patriarchs , and other well known hebrew families.
the 3x14 are a multiple of the number 7 which means complete and whole , he had to be careful what he wrote as blaspheming god was punishable by death.
that is why he mentions in his gospel." the kingdom of heaven." not ," the kingdom of god.".
the holy spirit guided the writers in their gospel writing

14 X 3 = 42 months or 1260 days or 3 1/2 years as written in the culmination Prophecy events to come at the 7 year period of the Tribulation and Great Tribulation of the pre-Millennial flood to come.

Matthew did not write it the Holy Spirit did. Nor did Luke. All scriptures were giving to Godly men by divine inspiration and they wrote it down. Have you not heard any of this?
"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for
teaching, for reproof,for correction, for training in righteousness;
that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work."
(2 Timothy 3:16-17).
Quit falsely accusing God of doing anything wrong. You have an agenda and I do not like where it is going with these bogus accusations.

generations were counted from Adam to Jesus:
Adam to Abraham (14generations in all)
Abraham to Moses(14genarations)
and
Moses to Jesus(14generations)
