Drinking blood of 2 thousand year old god?

Why do ordinary, everyday, smart, capable people gather together... every Sunday to drink the blood of a 2 thousand year old god? Doesnt seem a little odd? Don't Christians realize it's ritualistic cannibalism? I'm a little concerned that modern people actually do that stuff. Am I alone in this feeling?

Update:

Also, isnt the death on the cross a form of human sacrifice???

If Jesus comes back the Christians will run for their knives and forks.

To be fair, only the Roman Catholic Church and some Orthodox Churches believe in the doctrine of Transubstantiation. Virtually all protestant denominations believe that the "Lord's Supper" or Communion is simply an ordinance or memorial with which we can refocus our attention and our minds on the work performed by Christ on the cross.

The communion is largely understood to be a symbolic or poetic representation of the Christian's desire to be "one with Christ," that is, to thoroughly follow and obey him. There is nothing in the Bible that would suggest that the bread and the wine literally become the body and blood of Jesus. The belief that they do comes primarily from Catholic Tradition, which the Church holds in very high regard, but which non-Catholics generally don't agree with.

Do extra examine. Persian Mithraism and Roman Mithraism are 2 thoroughly distinctive entities. the former predates Christianity, the latter would not. What you defined is closer to the latter. The Persian Mithra became born out of a rock and not in any respect died. And he became on no account, ever time-commemorated as a messiah or Christ. Mithra is actual certainly one of three judges it particularly is on the bridge between the residing and the lifeless. Ahura Mazda exists different than for those different 3. Mithra's ceremonies have been actual linked with the sixteenth day of the month, and the seventh month on the Persian calendar, no longer Saturdays or Sundays. Sunday became the day of the Roman Mithras, no longer the Persian. My source for Persian Mithraism is the Avesta. My source for Roman Mithraism is Manfred Clauss, who's certainly one of the international's maximum appropriate specialists on Mithraism. Edit: In answer on your information, it is beside the point. Constantine actual sided with the Arians, no longer with the others. If he have been pulling any strings, the Arians could have gained the communicate. because it is, they did no longer. BTW, the author of the debate (Arius) became deposed from his place and excommunicated previously the Council ever got here approximately.

    You are absolutely correct.

Although not all denominations offer "communion", they do all believe in the "blood sacrifice". We really haven't changed much since our primitive ancestors offered virgin sacrifices, animals, etc.

EDIT: @ Sith Lord, you are mistaken or misinformed. Look up "transubstantiation". In the Catholic tradition that wine literally turns to the blood of Christ, the wafer into his flesh. Not symbolic in the least...

You're not alone but you are in a small minority.

The communion is a ritual that unites a community. It reminds christians of the profound love Jesus showed them.

You're right. It's way too close to human sacrifice, ritualistic cannibalism and ritualistic vampirism for me.

Well that was what the protestant reformation was about wasn't it - thousands of people protesting this and other catholic rituals so no you are definitely not alone. There was a civil war about it. Cromwell would be proud of you!

It's such a special, meaningful ceremony symbolizing Jesus' sacrifice so that we can be with Him for eternity. We drink grape juice in the ceremony.

I agree completely, and I'm just as puzzled as you are. I'm not a Christian...so I'll just leave them alone with their beliefs. To each his own I guess.

all of that stuff is done in a symbolic way.

when catholics drink the blood of christ and eat the flesh of christ they do this so that they may better emulate the living embodiment and virtues of jesus christ.
