Setting up two routers - Internet Access?

Hello,

I am trying to set up a network here, with one Broadband router, one normal router and an 8-port switch. So basically, I want to use the Broadband router to provide Internet access to the Normal Router, which then shares it with the rest of the computers.

I know that I can just connect the Broadband router to the switch to connect every computer to the internet, but it doesn't have access controls, which I need to have.

Thank you very much for any help given.

You should never use two routers on your network. A router is the gateway, the device that connects your network to another network. If one doesn't do the job, get the correct one. Don't try to daisy chain them together to get what you need. Its not efficient, and will cause you trouble. What is a "normal" router anyway? All routers are broadband routers.

HAHA I just finished setting up mine. So here is how to do it:

first, you need to connect the second router to the primary router. connect a cable in the primary routers lan port and the other end of the cable to the lan port of the secondary router. NOT THE WAN PORT where you would normally put the cable into.

Second, connect your computer to the secondary router and type 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.100 this usually connects you to the secondary router and the username and password is usually admin and admin. from there disable DHCP and you're DONE

have you ever tried assigning the routers IP addresses on distinctive subnets? which includes one having 192.168.a million.a million and the different 10.0.0.a million ? it could additionally be effective to disable DHCP on the two routers as you're saying and assign static IP addresses to all your machines.
