A tanker leaves port traveling at an average speed of 10 knots or nautical miles

two hours later a ship leaves the same port heading the opposite direction. How many hours will it take for the ships to be 209 nautical miles apart?

    im guessing that the ship is going at 10 knots.

    then in 2 h, the tanker went 20 miles.

    since tanker is moving at 10 knots in 1 direction and the ship is moving at 10 knots in the other direction, their distance is inreasing at 20 knots/h

    so their distance in terms of time after the ship leaves is

    d = 20 + 20t

    209 = 20 + 20t

    20 t = 189

    t = 9.45 hours
