Psychics. There are very few people who teach their children that psychics are real. As children, people naturally accept what their parents tell them. When properly taught (or indoctrinated, as the term is for things which are not considered acceptable by those who use it), such a belief will simply be maintained throughout adult life, unless properly challenged in some way.

Since the default is not to believe in psychics, but to believe in a religion, the not very stupid are more likely to realize psychics aren't true than that religion isn't true.

With psychics at least there is some (albeit limited) scientific support thru various parapsychology research and organizations such as the Rhine Research center.

Religion is believing things with no proof, Psychics you can test and they always fail the test.

I believe that putting our belief in psychics is believing in science instead of religion. But religion won't get you to heaven either. It is what we believe in one man, Jesus Christ the Son of God that is going to give us Life eternal in Heaven, not just religion.

I'd have to say religion. Psychics are just one phenomenon, and we all make weird mistakes, assumptions and have weird beliefs. But Religion is en entire code of thinking; a way of being that so defies logic and science it takes genuine ignorance to fully commit yourself to.

I would argue most people aren't committed to a religion like they say they are, too. Religiosity comes in flavors.
