Can someone support gays and be a Christian?

A friend said she supports gays and is a christian...Do you believe you can be a christian and support gays?

Ive always believed everyone struggles with different things(of sin) For some its drugs, others alchohol, and in some cases struggling when thinking homosexual thoughts...I think we should LOVE those people and show them christ..Their behavior isn't christ-like at all but that's where christians come in to help them not struggle with those things

Whats your point of view? Just curious...

Update:

I don't support sin...I love the sinner and hate the sin...I teach people not to sin...I don't support gays..I just want to see peoples point of view..Just curious is all.

Supporting and helping them are two different things. As Christians, we are called to help them turn away from their lifestyle.

When someone says that they "support gays" they generally mean they are in favor of allowing them to marry and receive benefits, and not be punished by law for engaging in homosexual acts. Supporting them is a sin. You are permitting and encouraging others to sin, aiding them to do it. That is a grave sin.

Turn the person away from homosexuality. Help them find God.

I don't believe homosexuality is a sin. I'm a Christian. I support gays and everyone in their freedom.

I don't know how christians can help them to not struggle. Christ can for give their sin if they repent"turn from it" and put their trust in Jesus. If we as christians support them say in a political way then we are condoning sin and therefore sinning our selves.

I think this will be said at least 100 times per hour on this section, but let me say it again: The Bible was written by MEN. Maybe those men were a bit homophobic, but in no way is the love between a man and another man or two women wrong and sinful. Don't love them out of your self-righteous pity, accept them for who they are and accept that it is not your place to judge them.

There is much debate on this issue. The Anglican churches in particular are wrestling with this.

Some say yes, and some say no. Most say no, but, a sizable group of people, many of whom are learned, and at high levels, say you can. Some say, "love the sinner, but not the sin."

So, it depends. Some denominations are totally opposed to homosexuality, some entirely embrace it, and others are in between.

Yes, Christians can support the gays. Just look at me, I support the gays and I'm Christian. Besides, many Christians ignore many parts of Leviticus and emphasize others, so what you hear is not always correct.

Millions of Christians, including several large denominations, support gays. Those who have taken the time to look beyond English translations of the Bible, back to the Hebrew and Greek, find that God never condemned homosexuality. Early 17th century translators did that, and modern translators follow suit, both out of bigotry, and the knowledge that if they translated it accurately, many Christians would reject it and wouldn't buy it. http://www.hoperemains.webs.com/

Episcopalians, Evangelical Lutherans, United Church of Christ, Society of Friends (Quakers), Old (not Roman) Catholics, some Baptist and Pentecostal denominations, and many others, are fully accepting of gay people.

Courage, an apostolate of the Roman Catholic Church, ministers to those with same-sex attractions and their loved ones. We have been endorsed by the Pontifical Council for the Family and our beloved John Paul II said of this ministry, "COURAGE is doing the work of God!" We also have an outreach called Encourage which ministers to relatives and friends of persons with same-sex attractions.

From our website you will learn about homosexuality and chastity. By developing an interior life of chastity, which is the universal call to all Christians, one can move beyond the confines of the homosexual identity to a more complete one in Christ.

In Courage you will get to know men and women who share in your concerns, meeting them online through our Listservs, or in person at Chapter Meetings, Conferences, Days of Recollection, and Retreats

I'm Christian and support gays. It's not a choice. You couldn't just decide all of a sudden to be gay. It's out of their control.
