    Ottoman Turks. Up until 1683 they were a major threat to Central Europe. In 1683 they were defeated before the gates of Vienna. That by and large ended their expansion into European Territory. From then on they lost territory to the European Powers.

    Basically they were called the Ottoman Empire back then. But the empire collapsed after World War I. So they were called Ottomans or something like that.
