As was mentioned above, the point of alchemy in the first place is to convert the item into gold. The two possibilties are that the item turned into very little gold, and you didnt notice it becuase you had a lot, or the item itself is worth nothing when alch'd

Okay, i strongly suggest not to use low alchemy...it wastes a lot of money. Instead, use superheat item to train till high alchemy. I suggest doing steel bars and if your using the low alchemy on the explorer ring i suggest to just use those on junk in your bank. Like maybe you picked up like a addy dagger or something, low alch those or high alch..doesnt matter. You can also train your mage in fist of guthix. It's very common since runes are free there, but you cant use things like hiigh alchemy, you can only use combat spells, like curse, bind and fire blast. Also if your going to do high alchemy i suggest doing steel platebodies and if you get member then do yew longs or ruby bracelets

Hiya,
the alchemy spells specifically exchange items for gold.
anything you used that spell on, should have turned into Gold.
