Did anyone else feel a little sad after reading Harry Potter 7...? (or any book)?

I've got about 20 pages to go till the end, but I feel really sad because it's the end of the whole story! I've read it before, but it still makes me sad because I don't want it to end but I want to keep reading to finish the story. I wish that I started reading HP when I was younger so that I could get all excited about the next book coming out and count down the days... But I was only 1 year old when the first book came out, and I didn't start getting into the series (I read a few of the books when 8, but I didn't understand any of it) until a few months before the last book was released. :(

Have you ever felt like this? What can I do? I really do feel kind of depressed about this. I know it's just a book, but still...

Have you read the James Potter series? It's what I turned to when I started feeling the Harry Potter withdrawl. It's actually quite good, the first one James Potter and the Halls of Elders Crossing,it's about Harry's first son and his first year at Hogwarts, learning the difference between being a hero and being the son of a hero, it's his trying to live up to his dad reputation while carving his own path. There are supposed to be 7 of them, one for each year he's in Hogwarts. I can't wait for the next one :)

They are available to read online for free, if you'll only just Google it. That should comfort you.

The day after i finished Harry Potter i felt really, really, empty and deflated. I was defiantly in mourning for a couple of days, to some people it might sound really sad, but Harry Potter was there for a long time in my life. So when i finished it was like a precious relationship was over, or like someone had died. When i was coming to the end, i was kind of like 'nooo' in my head because i wanted to finish but not the story, if you know what i mean. The next day my mum kept looking at me because i looked like i was going to burst into tears. Which i felt like a might.

Have you seen the films? I know their not as good as the books, but watch some of those, and if you haven't already read Quidditch Through the Ages, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and The Tales of Beedle the Bard, all by J.K.Rowling about the Harry Potter world, for charity. If you've read them already try finding another book to begin, nothing is the same as Harry Potter but try His Dark Material trilogy by Philip Pullman or Hunger Games trilogy by Susanne Collins.

YESS!! I cried when i finished, but not because the story was sad, because the story was finished

=( I was just as upset when i finished the Lord of the Rings.

Anyway, on JK Rowling's website it said she might be writing an eighth book!! Yay =)

What you should do, is try and find another book/series that you can get into and try and forget about Harry Potter. I don't mean *forget* about it, just try and move on a little to stop yourself from getting depressed.

    Good Luck with it =)

EDIT:Just saying, the James Potter series isn't even written by JK Rowling, i know that probably won't make much difference and you might not even care, i just don't think it's right.

I was a little down after reading the last one because it meant it was over. I feel that way every time I enjoy a book and I reach the end. You read about all these characters and it's like meeting someone, falling in love in a short time and then realising you have to say goodbye before you've actually made a connection. It is very sad.

Haha don't feel bad at all.The last book was released in July of 2007, and back then the whole world was feeling the exact same way you feel right now.People were torn between wanting to know how it ended and not wanting the story to end at all. I'm currently rereading it also, I'm on the last book. I find other books to read and play video games and watch movies sometimes. I give it time in between rereading the books just so I won't risk becoming bored.

I've re-read the series a couple of times since Deathly Hallows came out and I ALWAYS get that feeling of dread when I finish Deathly Hallows. It's amazing book, but still I wish there was MORE!

It's almost like I'm anxious...I want to know what happened next. JKR skipped like 19 years and I want to know what happened during that time. I really wish she would write another book. lol. Even if it's not from Harry's point of view. I just miss her writing. :(

The best thing you can do...is find something else to read. I recommend The Hunger Games...they're no Harry Potter, but they're still a great read.

Yes. So many books. When a book is really good I feel miserable when it ends. I remember feeling miserable when Harry Potter finished. It's even more horrible when a series end.

That sounds like me. I only got into the series about 6 months before the final book came out.

After I read the 7th book I was literally in shock, I couldn't believe it was over.

Maybe try to start reading the saga of Larten Crepsley, the first book has only been released, birth of a killer, the second book will be released in may 2010 i guess, maybe you can follow that saga and you won't be too sad next time. ;)

yeah it's normal when you finish a series to feel sort of hollow and like you are coming to the end of something. you spend so much time reading them and getting to know the characters that it makes you feel sad when it's over. i think the best thing to do is remember that you only feel like this because it was such an awesome series, if it was rubbish you wouldn't feel like this. then go out and find a new series to start! i suggest tomorrow when the war began, that had me feeling empty when it ended! good luck
