download and install open office software from http://www.openoffice.org/
it is a open source software i.e free to use and distribute
it can read and create Microsoft powerpoint 2003 and 2007
the version in this one is called impress, after installation open impress and create when saving click on save as and you will see the option to save it as ODF powerpoint 2003 or 2007

The free version of Microsoft PowerPoint is here:
The 2003 version has long ago been replaced (more than once already) by newer versions. The current version is PowerPoint 2010, which you can try free for 60 days here:

A slight correct to a posting about OpenOffice. OpenOffice can save in Office 2003 format, but not Office 2007 format.

If you need something that is free then I would recommend getting the Kingsoft Office 2007 program which has a menu interface that is similar to the one for MS Office 2003 Excel, Word and Powerpoint

Download website:

The installation file is stored in a zip file so you will need a program like Winzip or ExtractNow ( which you can get from www.download.com or www.instantfundas.com ) to unzip the file and extract the installation program for the Kingsoft Office 2007 Free Personal Edition.
ExtractNow:

I still use the Kingsoft Office 2007 on my computer to create and edit Word .doc and Excel .xls files so I can recommend this program
I wish your daughter good luck with her homework and I hope this will help!

Try to use Office Web Apps: (Free) (A Window Live ID is needed)
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/web-apps/redir/X...
or
OpenOffice(free): http://www.openoffice.org/
Just save the created file as *.PPT.
