Government Programs such as Food Stamps do nothing but provide short-term relief; correct?

I asked a question just a few minutes ago in regards to the loosened standards of the food stamp program and I wanted to address a point...

I understand people are hurting out there... I'm one of them. I'm a poor college student and my mom barely makes ends meet. I don't have a job and have struggled to find one in my area...

What needs to be done right away is to imediately make CUTS! in spending- because they are the reason why our Government in debt!!! We shouldn't be expanding Gov Programs that help people but rather eliminating the sources of evil!!!

That's like giving a drug addict more drugs because without them; he'll experience 'withdrawal' symptoms...

We need to withdraw from our current course of action asap. We need to stop policing the world, Get out of these wars, reduce government and then we will be able to provide real, practical soilutions to the american people.

Jobs are #1- We need jobs to provide for ourselves and our families- Organizations such as GoodWill and Salavation Army won't let you starve to death if you just walk in there and ask for assistance. THe same goes to local churches and such. ALso cut back your spending habits- Buy generic food versus brand name - sometimes the taste is indistinguishable.

We NEED to eliminate the ROOT of all EVIL- GOVERNMENT. Do not trust a drug lord to change- Don't all of a sudden think the government has it right- it doesn't and it never will.

If we had the Gov out of our lives, with no IRS because we no longer need to police the world- We would give an imediate boost to the economy across the board...

I'm just a stern believer that when you put more money in the hands of the american people versus the government- that the people are perfectly compatible of getting things done.

That sounds good and it's great for the wealthy, but reality doesn't bear it out. The facts are, things were better for most Americans when taxes were higher. They told us letting people have more of their money was good. They lied. wages frozen, jobs overseas, cost of education up, cost of health care up, personal debt and bankruptcies up, federal debt up, etc.

We need an IRS, there has to be some way to manage revenue, but we don't need to be spending more on defense than the rest of the world combined.

Thats stupidity. Government is the hallmark and cornerstone of civilization. It's what separates us from animals. If you are so rich you can afford to provide all the benefits of a government and don't want to pay any taxes, you may see it that way. The rest of us like police, fire, safety regulations and things like that.

With jobs gone and wages down and cost of living up, how do you expect people to provide for themselves and their families, sounds good but it's not reality. There are over 40 million people on Food Stamps, do you think Goodwill or the salvation army could absorb all that? Private charities are good, but they have higher overhead than government programs and they just can't serve enough people. People have cut back, but when your wages are cut back or you can't find work, all the cutting and generics in the world won't help you.

America has a HUGE food surplus, theres enough food to feed every man women and child five times over. Theres also millions who just can't afford to buy this food. To do something with all the waste, keep demand up and stimulate the economy we help those who for whatever reason just can't earn enough.

You can't just sit there and say jobs are gone, wages are frozen, people work longer for less, costs of everything is up and magically somehow expect people to be self sufficient.

No. If that were true we would not have generational welfare users. As for your slamming of Good Will etc. it is not their job to save you. Furthermore, no one can meet all your needs. You want to be spoon fed until you resolve your problems. I think you should quit smoking the doobie and go get a job

.You are all over the place

i know a person who is totally able to work, perfectly healthy yet he doesn't work.. because he just doesn't wanna work and his other reason is, he's getting food stamps from the government anyway, and that's all he need.
