Frequency is the number of rotations per a unit of time. Kind of like 'how frequently do you breathe in a ten second span' could be 12, so 12/10 = 1.2 breaths per second.
The period of rotation is the time it takes for one rotation. Using the same example, it takes 10 seconds for 12 breaths, so it takes 0.8333 seconds for each breath.
The relationship is 1/period = frequency and 1/frequency = period
