Thanks GibsonEs: didn't want to force it, was afraid I'd break something. Got the thing out. will let you know how I did when reinstalling...another hitch in plans...side where burnout happened in element. Connector wire looks slightly blackened, do I snip and try to re- attach?

Grab the narrow part with pliers or a Mole wrench and wiggle them off. If they are particularly stubborn then squirt the blade part with WD40, leave it 5 mins, then try again.

There are 2 subject concerns here: a million) a failing component, and a pair of) a failed selector swap and/or thermostat. a million) The component is "failing", or approximately to fail, as indicated with the help of the pitting you defined. The pitting is inflicting larger resistance at that area, inflicting that area to be warmer than everywhere else alongside the size of the component. it quite is the vulnerable spot which will fail quickly. 2) you have have been given a complicated selector swap (the Off/Bake/Broil swap) it quite is inflicting the oven to stay on besides the reality that that's technically switched off. except your a somewhat obtainable guy or woman and function a source for equipment factors, you may desire to call a restore guy or woman to evaluate and restore your oven. until it rather is repaired, keep the breaker grew to become off and, for further risk-free practices, unplug the oven from the wall.
