trying to understand ... pregnancy and miscarriage.?

on october 1st,2010.the doctor does my 1st ultrasound.it was a perfect heart beat and perfect baby.i was 6 weeks and a day gestation.they thought i was 8 weeks.they then tell me either they miscalculated the due date OR it was not developing and headed for a miscarriage.so they rescheduled the ultrasound to check again 2 weeks and 3 days later.on the 18th,the second ultrasound.they could not get a heartbeat or a visual of the once perfect baby with a perfect heartbeat.this is my 2nd miscarriage, they claim.i had a d&c with the 1st miscarriage.but i chose natural miscarriage this time.i do NOT understand HOW a once visual baby with a perfect heartbeat became unable to detect with no heartbeat!how is that possible?i do not want another miscarriage.but now they are doing hcg levels on me.i had 1 on the 18th and results are HIGH!the doctor then tells me that if they rise with next readings (which i will find out results tomorrow) are rising then he will do an ANOTHER ultrasound on me to check again.if my levels are dropping,he said i am heading for a miscarriage.i hated d&c cause it was very invasive!i felt like i had an abortion, but i had to remind myself that it was deceased.with my 1st ultrasound on it it was obvious it was deceased and that is why i chose d&c.but this pregnancy,i have a PERFECT baby with a PERFECT heartbeat ultrasound picture and the 2nd was supposed to be deceased with no heartbeat, but yet could not find it at same time.i do not see how a perfect baby could just not be found the second time.how is this possible?i am scared the doctor is a quack also.

Update:

well started bleeding.not heavy yet.had my blood drawn, but i already know after i started bleeding WHAT the blood readings will prove since i am bleeding.it will prove my hcg levels are indeed dropping tomorrow.was told if bleeding worsens, that i needed to go straight to ER!very sad day here.i am definetly losing this baby, and it is definetly my 2nd miscarriage.i have decided to have tests run on me to see WHAT is wrong with me to make me not able to carry a child now.pray for my husband and i for the journey has just begun.

Update 2:

the one person who put a web to click on thanks very much it gave me a bunch of viruses and i hope you do not do that very often cause that was rude.

It's not something that can be explained. I was pregnant last year and had my first scan at 8 weeks and the baby measures only 6w5d. They said it was healthy and saw the heartbeat and everything seemed fine. 3 weeks later when I went for a repeat scan they said the baby had not grown and the heartbeat could no longer be detected. I started bleeding the next day but they said the baby had not grown since the last ultrasound and must have passed shortly after, so it took my body 3 weeks to catch on that the fetus was no longer healthy for my hcg levels to start to drop and to start the miscarriage process. It's a hard situation and if you feel it necessary you should get a second opinion before scheduling a D&C. I wish you the best of luck.

Well...I don't know a ton about miscarriages, but being 9 weeks pregnant right now, of course I've read a lot about them to try to be educated about them.

Once you see the heartbeat on an ultrasound, I believe your chances of miscarriage go down to 5% or under. That's really low, but it's still a chance. And if your HCG levels are rising, that's a good sign. If they were lowering, then I'd say to be concerned.

If your doctor is really a whack job, I'd suggest finding another one. If your baby does turn out to be ok, do you really want this guy helping you for the next 7-8 months? Find another doctor, get another ultrasound, and see what THAT doctor has to say.

sometimes the mothers body absorbs the fetus. ck it out on line. i know this because it happened to a cousin of mine.
