Which defenseman would you rather have:?

(Bobby Orr is NOT a choice here)

Ray Bourque, Paul Coffey, Larry Murphy, Al MacInnis, Scott Stephens, Chris Chelios or Phil Housley?

Why?

My personal choice is Bourque; he did have offensive prowess and a great shot but he made it very clear that defense was his priority. He also threw one hell of a hip check, logged some crazy ice team and was classy but a VERY tough competitor.

Bourque. He was just great. A leader, and he was reliable. Some games I heard he would play something like 40 min. of ice time. You basically covered everything about him. I just remember that one time when he was wearing number 7 and met Phil Esposito then just took of the jersey to show that he was now #77. Man, it gives me chills.

Probably either Bourque or Chelios. Alot would depend on what the rest of the team looked like and what type of role that selected defenseman would be asked to fill.

scott stevens. Intimidation is a huge aspect that allows a team to win a cup. Look at washington and tell me what they have and what they are missing.. they are missing toughness, grit, and intimidation. My beautiful montreal canadiens managed to get rid of them in 7 games. Washington had the skills but were lacking that player that could scare you. Stevens injured two great players: Kariya and Lindros. Im not saying that what you need in a defeseman but it obviously creates intimidation and a tough guy to play against because you always have at the back of your mind that he could injure you too because the guy is gutless and fearless. He also had leadership which is very important. So Scott Stevens for sure

Ray Bourque. He has a point per game average(roughly) and any defensemen with a career +528, is A+ is my books.

Bourque. Just a god damn stud of a defenceman. Also the only one of these guys i've actually met.
