Does hair grow faster if you let it grow or get a regular trim?
I have short hair, and am wondering how to grow it out as soon as possible.
Common sense tells me just letting it grow would be the most efficient method.
However, all my hairdressers (over the years) have told me a regular trim every 6-8 weeks promotes hair growth.
So which is it?

Getting regular trims is the way to go hun.
Why? As time goes on your hair suffers from abuse. you blow dry or colour, go outside in the heat and the cold and wind, you brush, straighten or curl. All this puts stress on the cuticle and the ends begin to split. If you don't trim off those little splits they will split further the more you keep 'fixing' your hair. In addition, be sure to use a GOOD conditioner, one that will keep your hair pH balanced. If you colour your hair, the colour may raise the pH to very high levels (around 8). Hair normally likes to be around 4.5 or 5... so you would use a restoring conditioner around pH 2.5.
Anyhow, getting regular trims snips off those ends and doesn't allow them to travel up the shaft, splitting further.
One suggestion though, when you do go for a trim, MAKE SURE you insist on the most basic of trims and tell the hairdresser you are growing it out. lol...I have very fine hair and it wouldn't be the first time that I went in asking for a trim, only to come out waaaay shorter than I when I went in.
The best is to find someone who 'specializes in long hair'.. they will respect your desire to grow out your lovely locks.

Well, think about it. Hair grows about max half an inch a month (if I'm not wrong) and if you go for trims every 6-8 weeks, you're pretty much just chopping off the same length that grew in between your trims.
Usual trims chop off 1 or 2 inches off.
At least that's what I believe.
What I do is that I only trim my hair once every 3 to 4 months. It's really okay as long as you don't use too much heat on your hair as it causes split ends.

surely supplementations E, A, or perhaps D help. there's a shampoo and conditioner it relatively is offered in almost all salons it relatively is termed Nioxin. you will possibly desire to bypass no longer than 2 months to get a trim. human beings think of that, the less they cut back their hair the quicker it will boost. And no, the greater you narrow back your hair the quicker it won't boost! Hair is lifeless, as a result your hair follicles can't ''sense'' once you have become a haircut or possibly a trim. in basic terms get a 0.5 of an inch cut back each 4-6 weeks. Brush your hair on a daily basis formerly and after shampooing it with a organic bristle brush (any sally's has them). And while shampooing it, you need to apply the two the Nioxin or any CLARIFYING shampoo. this could help do away with any product boost which you have and could stimulate your scalp, unclog and open up your pores, taking into attention the hair to boost. it relatively is asserted that a persons' hair grows 0.5 an inch every4 weeks, yet specific maximum persons variety. desire you're taking this into attention and it facilitates.

What billie said is true. But sometimes with short choppy looks you can get away with 10weeks between cuts. Letting it grow helps but if the ends are yucki and split then it could travel up the hair shaft and requires more to get cut off. Maybe you can try extensions? or when you get yourhair cut/trimmed you could get a new style each time. Makes you forget you lost some length and gives you something toplay with and try new things with till your hair gets the length you want!
Goodluck growing your hair out!

i would recommend getting a trim every 6-8 weeks like your hair dressers say because even if you don't use heat products etc, your hair still gets damaged eventually so you end up loosing more hair by it breaking or fraying then if you just had a small trim every 6-8 weeks. Also i would recommend not using heat products like straighteners, hair dryers and curlers and not going swimming very often if not at all. Hope I helped :)

Hello,
I would also recommend getting your hair cut every 8 weeks however if you keep your hair healthy which means minimal straighting, blow drying and washing it only when it needs to be then you can get away with longer. The last time I cut my hair was about a year ago and its still great im trying to grow it long.

It's better to have a regular trim, just don't let your hairdresser take too much off.
