Why not disclose the source of EVERY campaign contribution over $1000?

Unrestricted and untraceable funding of the election process in this country is the root of corruption. Companies don’t spend money without an expectation of return and you can bet that the candidates know where the money came from and what’s expected of them. Consider Medicare Part D, the Government can’t even negotiate prices (for the love of Mike!). How much did that cost the pharmaceutical industry and how many billions did it bring them? Add big oil, and big banking and the infection is pernicious and deep.

I think President Obama is right on this one.

    Good question.

What POSSIBLE good can come from allowing people to act in TOTAL privacy to influence Federal elections?

This is PRECISELY why practically every lawyer in the country said, "They did WHAT??" when the Citizens United decision was handed down by the Roberts Court. EVERYBODY saw what was going to happen (the Conservatives denied this of course... even Roberts HIMSELF shook his head when Obama stated this potential negative outcome in the State of the Union address).

Now.... it HAS happened.... and the liberals are saying "told you so" and the conservatives are saying "you wouldn't be complaining if the shoe was on the other foot."

That would be a great argument EXCEPT.... the liberals were making that argument BEFORE the shoe was on EITHER foot.

I'd love to hear Roberts reply NOW that what Obama predicted (and he denied) has ACTUALLY occurred.

You are 1000% correct on this. Anonymous donors only add fuel to the corruption factor of our political system. So if they don't have nothing to hide, then there isn't any reason not to disclose who they are.
