will islam ever catch up with christianity, becoming more mellow, westernised, and tolerant?
the difference between the two religions may simply be due to age, or is there something inherently extreme and intolerant about islam that can never change?

Christianity is only 400 or so years older than Islam.
However, I do not think the age of the two faiths is what makes them so different.
CHRISTIANITY. Founded by a guy who as far as we know, never hurt anyone. Talked about love and peace and turning the other cheek and forgiveness and kindness and not making war on people. Never divided people into "us and them." Taught that you were to treat all people the same.
ISLAM: Founded by a guy who we know for a fact led his followers to war, killing people, forcing people to accept his faith "or else" and basically never said to be nice to those not of the faith. Taught that the faith was right and it was your duty to give it to others, even if they do not want it.
I think the problem is the basic teachings of the two faiths. The basic teachings are not the same so to expect the two faiths to be the same is not logical.

The extreme and intolerant parts of Islam are generally only followed by less that 1% of the Muslims (aka the radical sect)
Both religions were actually founded about the same time, give or take a bunch of years.

No, i do no longer think of it relatively is an automated consequence of fixing right into a substantial faith. nevertheless I do see it becoming to be tousled in some strategies... even now. what proportion arguments have began over whether or no longer a solitary has the appropriate to call herself Wiccan or perhaps Witch? Or whether or no longer self-dedication is valid? In some strategies, they have taken on an identical attitudes because of the fact the foremost religions, particularly with the whole "you're no longer a real... blah blah blah" that's extremely ironic pondering in historical situations, human beings did no longer carry jointly interior the way they are able to now and do comparable rites, etc... aside from cultural issues alongside with yuletide, summer season Solstice, etc... which dealt greater with farming existence than it did with actual Ritual. between the appropriate books i've got ever analyze Wicca and it touches on matters alongside with this, is Out Of The Shadows: Myths and Truths of modern-day Wicca by using Lilith McLelland.

I don't know. But I do know that they're about 1200 years behind the curve, even considering their late start. I get a lot of answers from Muslims who seem to be either lying on purpose or are honestly just ignorant of their own religion. Muslims who don't know/admit about Mohammed and the 7 Ajwa dates, or about Mo' and his 'fly wing cure' or when Mo' married and 'consummated' with Aisha or about sharia law and stonings of rape victims or...But frankly, if anyone is tired of waiting for them to catch up to the modern world, I am totally sympathetic to their impatience.
Source(s): Lonely Stoner, actually, yeah, b/c if you're trying to say that T. Jones makes Christianity as bad as Islam, hey, maybe it's time to find a girlfriend and put away the pot. Jones didn't even burn the Quran and yet, Muslims went ahead and rioted and killed people over it. Look it up. - How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.

Any religion that seeks temporal power is a danger to mankind. Spiritual matters are not of this world.
