If atheists don't believe that religion, Christianity or God exist, then why do they argue about it so much?

Reading what some of these atheist's ask and argue about, says very loudly, that a lot of them seem to be questioning their own anti-religious, anti-christian beliefs. They seem to waver upon their own crumbling foundations. Is God working here?

Update:

I was curious as to the answers I'd receive, but like I expected, just as with any other question on the subject, everybody's got two-cents to toss in. So, we're all just human. Quite elementary, when you really think about it, eh?

The reason atheists respond in this area is that each person (both atheist and theist) thinks that his understanding is the correct version.

When others show they have a different conviction, there is a natural urge to correct and convince them. The receivers of the correction have the same urge to oppose and reject the revision.

The problem is that, since the listener is already convinced he is correct, convincing him about religion (for or against) is extremely difficult. (This results in the “Cassandra Syndrome”. Mythical Cassandra was given the gift of foreknowledge and later cursed such that no one believed her. The syndrome is the feeling that your group or you alone know the truth.)

The only beliefs that can be impossible are those held by OTHER people.

Hi, Eugene. Developmentally disabled ten year old, if I had to guess, huh?

Okay, so: "religion", "Christianity" and all that exist, yes. "God" does not, except as this very attractive concept to people throughout the millenia.

"Atheist's" would be a word one would use to begin a sentence in which you discuss something an atheist owns, or where you are foreshortening the phrase "atheist is".

I'm pretty sure that what few of us are questioning here would be "agnostics," not "atheists."

To be "anti-religious" is not neccesarily the same thing as "anti-Christian," although I think we here in the Western World could be forgiven for seeing Christers as the main problem.

I don't "seem to waver upon (my) own crumbling foundations," but that is a very pretty phrase.

And no, "God" isn't working here. Because there is no "God." Understand, now? After asking your thoughtful and well-reasoned question?

This sort of reasoning was bad the first time it was proposed centuries age and it has not gotten any better. I'd have to comment that your complete misunderstanding of the atheist position has taken it to a new low though. We know that religion and Christianity (which any way you define it is a religion or a group of similar religions) exist, no belief needed there.

It is very arrogant to assume that religion and in particular your religion, has an effect on our society. When you understand this, then you can try to rethink your question.

Atheists believe that religion and Christianity exist.

    Um, no.

We think about religion for the same reason a doctor contemplates disease.

For the same reason a police officer ponders crime.

Because religion is damaging to society, and we wish to rid the world of mental virus that is religion.

As long as we are human beings regardless of what background, we are all like to compare, argue, etc.

    .

.To have the clear mind, we have to get rid of illusion, comparison, attachment. Only that we can have the clear mind.

I could say the same. Religious people's faiths are collapsing as we speak. Is this the work of logic and science?

Oh, I believe in religion, I just don't believe in the claims they make.

I am also, not anti-santa by pointing out that there is no evidence that he exists.
