Why are serial rapists only getting sentences of five years?

i am pretty sure it is because rape is not considered all that bad.

can you answer one question without making it about you? the question was about serial rapists, not mentally ill people who make spurious claims.

Sadly, if it's your family member, it will be even less time - - despite the fact that sexual assaults by family members (incest) is more traumatic to the victims.

Rapists are hardly ever reported, hardly ever prosecuted (only 13%), and when they are, they are given fairly light sentences. Many people (esp the MRAs) have more sympathy for the accused than for the abused.

Men, in sum, still get away with raping women, day in and day out. Particularly in war, it's only been recent that folks have said, you know, this isn't right.

Perhaps one day we will learn that women are valued and should not have a penis inserted against their will, threatened, and discarded.

Perhaps because the victims are women and not men.

What the hell kind of message is this sending to girls and women? That a man can be a dangerous predator, systematically set out to destroy a young girl, sexually, mentally, and emotionally, and in the end, a four year sentence is all that it merits?

What--is this some sort of "special treatment" he is receiving? How does anyone know that the sick bastard won't pick up his sexual assaults where he left off?

This should motivate women's rights activists even moreso.

Words fail me. What have the rape deniers got to say about this one? Were these guys all "nice guys" with "bad luck" to pick (or should I say be TARGETTED by) women who hold grudges and regret sex then go to the police ?

Yes it does. The first person who was raped will probably still be in therapy at the end of his sentence.

People keep telling me that rapists get killed in prison, yet it seems that pretty much all of them make it out in well enough health to commit additional rapes. I say women should stop reporting sex crimes, and start delivering justice more effectively. That is, themselves, or with other women. Men obviously haven't got the balls to put rapists in their place anymore. Time we start taking care of this ourselves.

At least he saw a jail cell as only 5% of rapists ever see a jail cell. It's an outrage that pretty much NOTHING is being done in the legal system to be more responsible when it comes to rape sentencing and prevention.

I think they should get life in jail or death. If life not a cozy jail life but a crummy one w/ bad food and no unnecessary entertainment like tv or videogames. The only things they should have access to are basics.

All sentences these days are a total sham! Look at England, you get longer sentences for a burglary than you do for murder etc The world had gone mad!

wow only 5 years?? Jeez they should be sentenced at least 20! At least! It probly has to do with their mental state, their marbles are not all there to put it simply.

Honestly I do get a certain satisfaction knowing that men with such offences get raped repeatedly in jail (if we're talking about the cop, its probably going to be even worst with him being a cop and all). Somewhat of a form of karma, but I do believe these fuc*ers should rot in jail though; and yes I believe that rape is as bad as murder, you are torturing someone to an extent that is just sick (that's my opinion of it). If we're talking about a quick death kind of murder, I'd take dying over being raped any day.
