Imam Baba Leigh On Child Rights in Islam
The Independent (Banjul, Gambia) INTERVIEW
August 3, 2001
There is ample evidence on other pages that male circumcision itself (not just "the way it is done") is harmful to the health of the male child. It is painful, risky, often deforming, sexually diminishing and confers no health benefits.
Another reason given is "to be like Muhammad, who was 'born circumcised'". This can easily be refuted: if the Prophet was born without a foreskin (aposthetic), he was not circumcised, and that is the way to be like him.
What has Islam got to say on female genital mutilation?
As far as female genital mutilation is concerned in Islam, it is permissible and not obligatory. Even male circumcision is not compulsory but a Sunnah. If there is any harm in female circumcision then it can even be banned in the sense that it has been proven by scientific and medical Islamic scholars that the way it is done is harmful to the health of the girl child.

@I love ❤Allah❤ you are one messed up cookie.
No its disgusting and pointless, Foreskin is there to protect your genitalia from dirt, saying its healthier is total BS. Saying it improves the sexual experience is also BS, in men the foreskin keeps the tip moist and sensitive, without it the tip becomes dry and less sensitive, same goes for women with the clitoris.Having good sex should not and does not involve chopping skin off of yourself, sex n00b lol

Muslim women don’t do Female Genital Mutilation.
Muslim women do female circumcision and it is the removing of the clitoral hood/prepuce/cover not the clitoris, and it is painless.
It increases sexual pleasure as the clitoral glands are exposed, remove odour and cleaner.
@ASKER: PLEASE Read up on clitoral hood:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clitoral_hood
It is legal and done in some Muslim countries by female medical doctors in clinics privately.
It is optional for Muslim women to do Female circumcision not obligatory.
Our beloved Prophet Muhammad, pbuh, is reported to have passed by a woman performing circumcision on a young girl. He instructed the woman by saying:
"Cut off only the foreskin (outer fold of skin over the clitoris; the prepuce) but do not cut off deeply (i.e. the clitoris itself), for this is brighter for the face (of the girl) and more favourable with the husband."

@The Eye of Omen:
Why am i a messed up cookie?
Isnt it better to be circumcised for both males and females?
Its cleaner and better and is more pleasurable for sex.
But it is not obligatory for females only males are obligatory.
