How long does a monthly travel card on an oyster card last for?

I apologise if this sounds like an obvious question, but I just wondered if it is designed to last only 28 days or for the whole calendar month. I bought my travel card on 1 Oct this year. When I used it today at the station and touched out, it said "Ticket2 will expire soon". Does this mean it will expire after today or at the end of the month?

Thank you!

It really does last for the month:

If you buy it to start on the 4 ~March, it will expire 3rd of April,

Bought on 15th June, it expires on 14th July

Bought on 25 of September, expires 24th October etc.

So February is the short MONTH!

If you put your card against an Oystercard top- up machine it should tell you the date 'to' your monthly card actually is.

I don't think it is a stupid question! I asked the same thing to the people in the station, it makes more of a difference when you get to the short months like Feb, I thought I might be being diddled out of something! But no, like the other poster said, it dies the day before the date you bought it on the next month, so basically you only get to use it on one 1st of the month one 2nd of the month and so forth. Therefore it eliminates the confusion over the 30/31 issue! If there is a 31 you get it if not you don't, so this month, you get an extra day for your money.

And my oyster card tells me its going to expire about 2 weeks before it does and then at about 3/4 days before it does that sign goes away! Most peculiar.

Uh, a month. It works on calendar months. The ticket barrier warning is intended as a reminder.

If you buy it on the 14th of the month, buy a new one to start on the 14th of the next month.
