Why are Jewish and Italian always used to contradict each other?
I don't quite understand this. is it impossible for someone to be a jewish italian person? and why do people say "I'm not Jewish, I'm Italian" and why do they not say, "i'm not Jewish, I'm Catholic"?? Being Jewish is a religion, it doesn't mean you're from "Jewland"

<<Why are Jewish and Italian always used to contradict each other?>>
I have no idea what that means. . .
<<I don't quite understand this.>>
Yeah, that makes two of us.
<<is it impossible for someone to be a jewish italian person?>>
No, that's not impossible.
<<and why do people say "I'm not Jewish, I'm Italian" and why do they not say, "i'm not Jewish, I'm Catholic"?? Being Jewish is a religion, it doesn't mean you're from "Jewland">>
Actually it CAN mean either/or!
Depending on the context, "Jewish" can be a reference towards a person's religion of Judaism, or it could also mean ethnicity; someone from Israel.

If someone says "im not jewish, im italian", i would just laugh. They should be embarrassed to even say that, since those two things arent even relevent to eachother. Jewish=religion, italian=ethnicity. You can be italian, and jewish.

Because back in NY in the 40's the Jews and Italians didn't get along they had their own gangs.
