Taking the train from Harrison, NJ to NYC, where's the best place to park?
My girlfriend and I might be taking a little road trip to NYC this Saturday for the day. We are coming from South Jersey and would rather have the freedom of driving our own car than sitting in a cramped bus. Doing research, I found the most affordable way to get to NYC without actually driving into the city, is to take the PATH train in Harrison, NJ, which goes to the WTC station in Manhattan. Our only question is where would we leave our car? We'll probably be gone from the AM until around 9 or 10PM as we want to spend the entire day in NYC. Is Harrison's parking free or is there anywhere nearby that is relatively cheap for the rate of an entire day? Thanks.

From "awesam" on city-data.com
"There are lots that allow overnight parking. One is like right across from the PATH...it's a lot with a little booth and then like a warehouse looking thing in the back. I think it's $14 to park overnight and you have to park in the warehouse thing. You won't have access to your car from like 12am - 5am. I've done it before - it's safe. But Harrison cops don't play and they'll probably be even more on the lookout because of the new stadium being opened."

I can offer an alternative suggestion--one that I've used myself.
Take the Garden State to Exit 131A and park at the Metropark New Jersey Transit station garage, which is in a very nice area (unlike Harrison), and directly off the Parkway. The garage costs about $5-7 for the day, and your car will be very safe.
Once you park, just walk across from the garage to the ticket office and purchase tickets for the next NJT train into Penn Station in Manhattan. This option will cost a few bucks more than Harrison/PATH but is very easy, and very safe. Oh, and the garage is open 24/7, in case you're running late. Trains run until after midnight.

I believe there is a parking garages near the Harrison PATH station on Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard South. However, I'm not sure if it's free or you have to pay to parking there.
Besides Harrison, there are parking facilities in Jersey City and Hoboken that are closer to Manhattan. You can still take the PATH from either city to Lower Manhattan.
The links below are the location of parking garages in both cities.
