What was food used for in WW1...other than eating...?
I know it sounds strange, but if there are any history boffins out there please help I have scoured the web and I can't find a single document on the specificity of my subject, only generally what they ate and stuff on rationing.

It was used as a weapon; blockading an enemy's country so that food can not be imported leads to hungry enemies who don't perform as well at work, say, making guns and bombs and bullets to drop on you.
Denying food to the other side is an ancient tactic and was used in WW1 and 2 by both sides; the Germans tried ( twice ) with their U-Boats to cut off food ( and oil and armaments) to the UK; the Brits, being able to easily cut off shipping traffic inbound to Germany did a good job not only cutting off food but also fertilizer, something Germany was desperately short of. No fertilizer, no food; hungry troops and hungry civilians who don't perform as well as they could.

Honey was used to cure soldiers wounds. It would keep the air out of the wound and if it had a bad odour, take it away and replace it with a sweet smelling one. True Fact.
