Why does my washing machine have only hot water?

It was leaking and my ex fiance stopped the leak, but now only hot water comes out. I told him about it and he said the cold water wasn't turned on. So I thought.. oh problem solved, but I noticed today it is still darn hot even on cold.

Any ideas?

Thanks in Advance!!

Cinn =)

Update:

Thanks and thumbs up to all. I will try to look into it

Update 2:

haha! Toolman I cannot flip hoses. Can I just use hot when I want cold and vice versa like someone else suggested?

Update 3:

Thanks and thumbs up to all that answered.

As for the person who said why thumbs down... I haven't a clue, some people are just rude!

Hmm. If you set it to cold water only, then the water should be the temperature of cold water at any faucet in your house.

It's possible that the lines are switched (hot=cold, cold=hot). To find out if this is the case, set your washing machine on the hot water setting and see if it comes out cold. If it's cold, just switch the two lines.

    Washing Machine Only Hot Water

I've been in the drycleaning business for a while and before that I worked laundry in a nursing home, so I know a little about this.. absolutely hot water in a washing machine with a cotton ratio above 60% will cause shrinkage. If you're aim is to shrink a full size, wash the item by itself in the hottest setting with little detergent and no fabric softener. Then dry the item by itself with the hottest setting for two full cycles. If you want your item to be softer, follow all of those steps with a normal cycle. Warning though: once your item is shrunk, that's that!

you may have a bad water intake valve or loose wire to it. try this - turn of hot and cold water , turn washer on as if needing only hot water LISTEN to hear a click(solenoid opening) then do the same for the cold water. LISTEN for the click when operating on cold water selection. if no click, you might/can pop up top of washer and look towards where the hose connect it should have two solenoid connected with 2 wires to each solenoid. before you touch the wires be sure you unplug form wall outlet to avoid from getting shock. hope the helps!

I think when your ex 'fixed the leak' he just turned off the cold supply - hence him saying its not turned on. The machine is still taking its water from the hot supply, probably you just need to turn on the cold supply (and fix the leak as it is probably still there)

i question why they (hoses)would get switched around as ,if one were leaking you wouldn't remove both.

    plumber time.

I'm sure that I could fix it for you, and I'd really like to try, if only...

"Forgive & Forget" wasn't just a fiction line from books & movies.

I could fix the Fridge too, now that I ordered & got the parts, but that's probably "too little, too late", too.

I wish I could fix all of your/our problems as easily as I can the mechanical ones, but that would require an understanding I'm not credited with having.

I really am willing to try. The rest is up to you.

Source(s): "Purest S" is probably right, as is "Coke Freak", but I wouldn't want you messing with the solenoid, as it is; with all the available moisture, a shock is probable, and the difference between "good" & "bad" takes a practiced hand.

My guess is that there is crud (technical term) in the little screen / filter that is in between the cold line and the washer thus preventing the cold water getting into the washer.

    Why the thumbs down????

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com/

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

he has the hoses flipped. he has the cold water hooked up to the hot and the hot water hose hooked up to the cold just flip the hoses

  • 1 decade ago

make sure the hoses are on the proper sides entering the washing machine

this would do what your saying

make sure no kinks are in the hoses

and of course make sure that both hot and cold faucets are turned on

    I hope this helps

    smile

    good luck
