Surprise about Auburn and their coach?

You wont see it very often but I am admitting I was completely wrong. I thought when Auburn hired Gene Chizik they were making a huge mistake. Obviously they seen something in the guy that I didn't. He is a good coach, I knew that much. But I wasn't sure if he was ready to take on a job like Auburn. But here he is leading the SEC. I figured being at Iowa State he had no idea what it took to win. Anyone else make this same mistake? I know when they hired him a lot of people were saying...."What?!" I was one of them. What are your thoughts on the situation and what did you think when they hired him?

I did, but I am not sold on Aubyrn yet. I'll admit I was wrong at the end of the year, or even better yet, when Malzahn gets a head coaching gig.

He wasn't my first choice.. but I totally got it when Jay Jacobs hired him... the first thing I said when it was announced was that his success or failure would come down to his Offensive Coordinator.. obviously he made a good choice there.. but now people are all "It's all Malzahn and Tuberville's recruits".. well sorta.. Tubs didn't exactly set the world on fire the last 4 years of his stay there in the recruiting department and it's a LARGE part of why he's not still at Auburn.. Chizik's first real class at Auburn was outstanding and that class (contrary to what anyone will admit who doesn't actually follow Auburn football) is contributing.. Mike Dyer is second on the team rushing and is getting better every week, Corey Lemonier, Jeffrey Whittaker, Jake Holland and Shaun Kitchens have all pitched in this season as well to spell the starters.. Craig Sanders has been an absolute terror on special teams.. and then there's Cam Newton.. so no it's not exactly with Tubs players but the 24 Seniors doesn't hurt ;)

as for Malzahn.. haters will hate and the scared will say "he's going to _____" but Malzahn is well paid at Auburn so someone's going to have to come with a real offer before he steps off the plains.. personally I've heard he's holding out for the Arkansas job as that is the one job he wants.. and when he decides it's time to move on he's set up Auburn in great shape.. he's got a Graduate Assistant he's taught everything he knows to that he's leaving to help Trooper Taylor whom he has ready and waiting to take over as the OC.. Gus Malzahn is one of the good one's

but to put how good Chizik and his coaching staff are doing.. after 21 games at Auburn he's got a record of 16-5.. after 21 games at Alabama.. Nick Saban had a record of 15-6.. can you really ask more than that?

Most Big 12 fans were saying that Auburn was getting a good coach. Chizik had a school that was hard to recruit at before Auburn, but he has always been a good coach.

Petrino does not be a sturdy fit. he's shown that he's a quitter (resigning from the three-10 Atlanta Falcons final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days) and signed a freelance with Arkansas. i ought to be sure a guy like Mike Leach going there, yet i do no longer see him going to Auburn. no longer relatively beneficial precise now.

Of course he's good now. He's got Tuberville recruits and Gus Malzahn. Give it a few years for Malzahn to leave.

Cam Newton doesn't hurt his image any.
