how to calculate the ph of a solution?

The Ph of aqueous 0.10 M nitrite ion is 8.17. What is the Kb of this base?

    NO2- + H2O < = > HNO2 + OH-

    pOH = 14 - 8.17 = 5.83

    [OH-]= 10^-5.83=1.48 x 10^-6 M = [HNO2]

    Kb = [HNO2][OH-]/ [NO2-] = ( 1.48 x 10^-6)^2/ 0.10=2.19 x 10^-11
