Would a person who is severely allergic to nuts be allergic to nutmeg?

My mom's making mashed potatoes a different way and it has nutmeg in it.

My best friend is coming over for dinner and has a severe nut allergy.

Is that gonna be an issue?

No. Your friend may have seconds!

From the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network:

    "Q: Is nutmeg safe?

A: Nutmeg is obtained from the seeds of the tropical tree species Myristica fragrans. It is generally safe for an individual with a tree nut allergy."

Nuts and nutmeg are considered different things, but you could look on the back of the container to see if it could possibly contain nuts(:

Nutmeg is a seed, so I wouldn't think so. Tell them it has nutmeg in it just in case they are allergic though.
