Dia de los Meurtos is specifically a Mexican and South American festival of celebrating the dead. It is tied into Christianity because it starts TODAY -- which is the Feast of All Saints Day. Everyone in Heaven is a Saint, Therefor, honoring the dead who have gone before us is very tightly tied to Christianity, as we hope all our dead are in Heaven. If not, we honor them while they make their journey to Heaven in Purgatory.

<oh look! Chris signed into three of his accounts to thumb himself up, and thumb me down. How Captain Obvious of him>

To add: LOL! I know right? Happy "Days of the Dead" to you, too! It lasts a couple of days. I was born and raised a Californian, and spent much of my time in Mexico. At some time in recent history it was sorta dropped down in priority for Mexican Americans, but a recent (last 15years or so) Mexican cultural revolution has brought it back. I am so grateful! I think our dead SHOULD be celebrated! The only people who ignore, don't pray for, or assume-results for their dead is: Protestant Christians.

Through the years, it became associated with All Saints' Day, Nov 1st, in the Catholic Church. But at first it was on All Souls' Day, which is Nov. 2nd.

On All Saints' Day, we are supposed to think about all the saints of the Church who have died and gone to heaven. On All Souls' Day, we think about everybody who has died, especially friends and members of our own family.
