    it was the air jordan 1 and back then the uniform code said shoes had to incorporate white in some way.

    The NBA fined him because the shoes did not conform to their standards. The majority of the shoe had to be white, but his were black/red. It worked out to Jordan and Nike's because they got major publicity. After that, Air Jordans went from $65 a pair to $100 a pair. Nowadays they go for $175 and up...     Because they were banned from the NBA. But Nike was glad to pay the fine in EVERY game just for the publicity. I think it payed out don't you think?
