How to make an edible volcano eruption?

At school, my class were told we had to make a volcano and make it erupt. My teacher showed us a few examples from other classes. One of them was a cake, which he said they had made some sort edible foam or explosion. He said they ate it afterwards so everyone in the class were saying things like "Oh, I hope someone makes one like that!" so my friend and I decided that we would.

We need to make the volcano explode. Does anyone know how? Here are a few some things to keep in mind:

a) It will probably go onto the cake, so if has to be food.

b) Don't say Diet Coke and mentos, or vinegar and baking soda, or anything that would be gross with cake.

Not much else to say really. Please answer if you have any ideas! Thanks in advance!

Update:

By the way, I don't need a recipe for the cake, I already have that.
