In english what is the largest number you can write in words, ie - 'nine million nine hundred and ninety nine thousand.' In other words, what is the largest number with an actual word attached to it in the english language and what would it look like in figures?

    It depends on what country you’re in.

    In most English speaking countries we use “the short scale”,

    where: 1 sextillion = 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

    But in French-speaking Canada, most of the E.U. and most of

    Latin America (including Mexico), they use “the long scale”,

    where: 1 trilliard = 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

    Of course there are words specific to specific numbers

    examples: googol, googolplex, etc.; but these are not "general use" descriptors.

    Every number possible can be written out in words by the English language.

    Since numbers go up for ever I guess there is no real answer unless you want to say "positive infinity".
