Why doesn't California tax their wealthy at a super high rate and show the rest of us how it's done?

I hear a lot on here saying how the rich are evil and need to be taxed at 50-90%. I also hear a lot on here talk about how so many rich people live in California. Why not show us regular people how well that works then? Lets see how fast they move out.

They are doing it currently. Just as New York is doing currently. That is why rich people are leaving those states and moving to other lower taxed states. That is what will happen if the progressives try to go after "rich" people on the federal level. They will move their money off-shore and stop paying taxes on it.

California's problem is they can't raise taxes at all. Thanks to the Republicans, a two-thirds vote is needed to raise taxes. And just like the federal government they don't have the tax revenue to cover the services people somehow expect. Or existing debt. Not to mention lenders expect to be repaid.

So just like the Federal government everyone they know they owe. And when the bill arrives everyone looks up and whistles. Like Deadbeats everywhere.

"Tax increases will still need a two-thirds vote of the Legislature to pass, so a budget that included higher taxes could still face delays, Davis said. Democrats, while in control of both chambers of the Legislature, lack enough votes to meet that supermajority."

What is wealthy? If you make $15,000 annually, aren't you wealthy compared to the person who makes $14,000?

The bottom line is that government should be small enough (and controlled enough) so that every american can be taxed the same flat dollar amount - not percentage. For example, every american should be charged $250.00 per year for the federal government. Then in addition, how about another $500.00 annually for state and local governments.

If government 'needs' more than that, its due to too much welfare and too much warfare - theft really.

The government needs to cut its workforce instead of raise taxes to pay for useless & redundant idiots who shuffle paper between cubicles.

A government job produces nothing but lip-service and is not a revenue producer ... or even a job.

You're right. There would be mass emigration of high tech to more reasonable states.

I wonder where Hollywood would relocate to.

That's why the high taxes are best left to the federal government. ;)

They should give their money to the poor undocumented workers so they can have healthcare and take care of their babies
