How do i connect my xbox 360 to my computer monitor (or computer)?

Question

I would like to move my xbox to my room. The problem is that i don't really know how to connect it so i get video and sound. I have a Samsung syncmaster 2494 monitor connected to my computer with a dvi cable. the monitor has a rgb slot free. Does anyone have any ideas how to connect it so that theres also sound (im figuring i have to go through my computer so it can use the speakers or having some sort of adaptor).

If I'm looking at the correct monitor specs what you mean is you have DVI and VGA inputs. If it's the HM model you also have a HDMI input. If it is the HM model with the HDMI input and your xbox has HDMI output that's the easiest way to go, all you need is a HDMI cable. If your monitor is an earlier version with just the DVI and VGA inputs you can still connect. You'll need a VGA adapter cable (I snagged one on ebay a couple years ago cheaper than MS version). Mine (and all that I've seen) come with RCA jacks for audio* so you will probably need a stereo RCA to stereo mini adapter as well to plug the audio into your monitor or computer speaker inputs. You'll love the improved graphics if you were previously playing on a standard def TV with the composite inputs.

* oh, and mine has an optical audio jack, so you can get surround sound output if you have an optical input surround sound system
